Step two to securing your system:

Use antivirus software and keep its virus definitions up-to-date!

  Would you take your car on the road without insurance?  Of course not!  Then why take a chance on taking your PC onto the Super Highway without its insurance.  Running Antivirus software is a must!

a.  Install Antivirus software.

AVG Antivirus is available for free there are others like Norton, Mcafee and PC-cillin as well, which must be purchased.

b.  Update the virus definitions regularly.  Set your Antivirus scanning software to automoatically update its definitions so you do not have to remember to do it. (Recommended to be done weekly)

c.  Run a full system scan and enable real-time scanning.  Then schedule automatic periodic system scans so that your system scans itself on a regular schedule so you do not have to remember to do them. (Recommended to be done weekly, repeat more often if PC is always connected)
